Vineyard Hotel

Description

With over 200 years of history within its walls, this deluxe 208-roomed hotel is situated within 3.5 hectares of attractive landscaped parkland on the banks of the Liesbeek River. Located in the lush leafy suburb of Newlands, the Vineyard Hotel is within easy walking distance of the up-market Cavendish Shopping Centre and is just 10 minutes away from the city centre and popular Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

A preferred destination for international tourists, this award-winning two-storey hotel is also one of the finest venues in Cape Town for conferences, and is popular among locals for weddings and special occasions.

The Vineyard Hotel has made a commitment to ‘living green’ and has implemented various environmental and socially responsible practices into its running, to ensure that sustainable development principles apply throughout. “The hotel has made the essential shift to low-carbon and resource-efficient operations,” says Vineyard Hotel CEO Lex Petousis. “Even just a one percent reduction in total energy needs, such as we have achieved via our solar panels, has reduced C02 emissions as if we had planted 341 more trees on the property. And this, in the just over 3 years and 10 months that the solar panels have been generating electricity! I would encourage all those in the tourism niche to seek out similar ways to advance the green economy.”

At the conference centre, menus include organic seasonal fresh produce, free-range protein sources and only SASSI approved seafood. In terms of stationery, paper, pencils and whiteboard markers are chosen due to their recyclable content. Visitors to the centre can rest assured that their carbon footprint remains low, through the use of solar panels and LED lights, with natural lighting illuminating areas where possible. A tri-bin waste separation system means that as much as 90% of the centre’s waste can be sent for recycling.

The Vineyard Hotel buys green electricity certificates from the City of Cape Town, for use at the conference centre, which are generated by the Darling Wind Farm. In this way, guests and delegates can declare that their event was powered by renewable energy.
