TEDxCapeTownWomen is going waste free

“TEDxCapeTownWomen 2019 is the most magnificent gathering of people who are shining a light on others in their communities. These bearers of bold and brilliant light are not just the speakers, but the coaches, the volunteers, and our partners,” says TEDxCapeTownWomen Curator Nwabisa Mayema.
On Saturday, 7 December 2019, TEDxCapeTownWomen is back with the annual, highly-anticipated speaker event and will be exploring the theme: Bold+Brilliant. TEDxCapeTownWomen is featuring six fearless, brave, resilient individuals who radiate what it means to be bold and brilliant in the midst of and evolving and dynamic Africa.
This year’s TEDxCapeTownWomen event is being hosted alongside the global TEDWomen Conference in California, USA, as well as hundreds of similar TEDx women’s events around the world. The event in Cape Town also coincides with 16 Days of Activism against violence toward women and children here in South Africa.
Complimenting the 2019 event is an online interview series called “Sheroes,” which highlights Bold+Brilliant women making an impact across Cape Town. The blog series can be found on the TEDxCapeTownWomen website.
Although still a couple weeks away, the 200pax Bold+Brilliant event, happening in the Allan Gray auditorium at the V&A Waterfront’s Silo District, sold out in a single weekend. As part of the team’s emphasis on conscious consumption during the event, the TEDxCapeTownWomen team is striving toward a waste-free event. This includes knowing where products come from, knowing what they are made from, giving the audience a choice to keep/consume event products or not, and knowing how waste is managed. TEDxCapeTownWomen has been working closely with its sponsors, partners, and the venue to source locally-made, sustainable event paraphernalia and outline detailed waste maps to ensure that almost nothing from the event ends up in landfill.
As a nonprofit organisation dedicated to “ideas worth spreading,” TEDxCapeTownWomen is committed to strengthening a purposeful community of people who question the status quo and desire a more equitable Cape Town.
